Java Runtime Environment (mandatory)
Usually already installed on your computer. You can check if you have Java and install it on Java's website

Bonjour (optional)
Freely distributed by Apple. Bonjour can also be named MDNSResponder.exe . iTunes and some other products ship with MDNSResponder.exe, so you may already have it. If you don't, we would appreciate if you install it, but it is not necessary. You can download Bonjour for Windows on Apple's support website.
Firewall Warning. Depending on the settings and the version of your Windows machine, you may have a firewall warning: this is expected because HomeNet Profiler needs to access the Internet for performing measurements and for uploading data to our server.
Run HomeNet Profiler
If the application does not start automatically (i.e., your web browser has decided to download the file without offering you to run it), double click on the downloaded file to run HomeNet Profiler.

Often already installed. If not install the JRE package for your distribution. You can check if you have Java on Java's website

Avahi and avahi-discover (optional)
Often already installed. If not, install the avahi package for your distribution.
For us to be able to scan for neighbouring WiFis, please start the HomeNet Profiler in sudo mode. To do so, in a terminal run the three following commands:
wget http://cmon.lip6.fr/hnp/static/home_net_profiler.jar sudo java -jar home_net_profiler.jar rm home_net_profiler.jarThe first command line will download HomeNet Profiler. The second command will ask you your password and start HomeNet Profiler in sudo mode. The third command will deletes the HomeNet Profiler file, its only purpose is to save space on your file system.
If you do not know how to execute the above commands, or do not want to run HomeNet Profiler in sudo mode, just run HomeNet Profiler.
